Battle of the Books

Description:
Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading program designed for fourth and fifth-grade students. The purpose is to simply encourage students to read quality children’s literature and have fun by competing against their peers.

Requirements:
There is an application process to be accepted into the program. Applications will be distributed at the beginning of the school year to interested students. Students must be strong readers, as they will be responsible to read from a list of 15 books during the course of the program (October – March) and be required to retain detailed information about the books. Students must maintain a high standard of achievement both academically and behaviorally. Students who are interested in trying out are encouraged to start the reading process the summer before.

Meeting Times:
Every Wednesday until 4:30 in the Media center

Yearly Activities:
Students will travel to the Battle of the Books Competition to compete against other elementary schools in Cumberland County at an all-day event held sometime during March.
