Career Day
Published by Shenita Lise on January 16, 2018

On Friday January 12, 2018, Loyd. E. Auman Elementary held their annual career. Over 40 professionals were in attendance for this school wide event. The visitors represented a wide range of careers, including optometrist, phlebotomist, attorney, law enforcement, firemen, fitness trainer, entrepreneurs, school executives, college/university staff, psychologist, radio personality, artist, and journalist. The speakers participated in 20-30 minute presented for Pre-K through fifth grade students. Students were enlightened with up-close and personal view of a variety of occupations to explore through lectures, demonstrations, and question and answer segments.

By the end of Career Day, LAES students had seen over 40 individual presenters representing career fields ranging from college or university professionals to medical professionals to public service professionals. One of the highlights was a presentation by a phlebotomist who gave students, per period, an actual hands-on demonstration with actual laboratory equipment! The hands-on demonstration not only added to the presentation, but it captured and held the students’ attention as they learned about that field of medical scientists.

Each presenter also received a Certificate of Appreciation in acknowledgment of the time and consideration taken to assist and support our efforts.

Students said they were most interested in hearing how the presenters felt about their career choices. The day of active occupational learning was intended to teach students in all grades the ins and outs of various career options to help steer their academic pathways. Read more
